11/30/94 Format of the TDL Dictionary The TDL station dictionary is in 80-character card image format. The format is: (A4,1X,5A4,3X,3A1,1X,I5,A1,I5,2X,A1,I2,1X,I2,1X,A1,I3,1X,I2,1X,I1,1X,I1,1X,I5,1X,A1) TDL Card Columns Desired Information 1-4 Station call letters. 6-25 Station name. Note, columns 24 and 25 contain the state orcountry abbreviation. 29 H-denotes stations with observed data in TDL's hourlyarchive (all stations archived should be marked with H) 30 F-denotes stations for which a FOUS12 or similar forecastmessage is generated. 31 S-denotes specialized stations (marine, agriculturalweather, etc) in TDL's MOSMAT and MOSBAT files. 33-37 Block/station number 38 C-denotes stations whose temperatures have been convertedfrom 0C to 0F. 39-43 Station elevation in whole feet. 46 N or S for north or south latitude. 47-48 Station latitude in whole degrees. 50-51 Minutes associated with station latitude. 53 W or E for west or east longitude. 54-56 Station longitude in whole degrees. 58-59 Minutes associated with station longitude. 61 Area code: 1=conterminous United States and Bermuda;2=Alaska and Canada; 3=Hawaii and Pacific Islands;4=Caribbean Islands; 5=Mexico, Central, and South America;and 6=rest of the world. 63 Type of station. 0 or blank=manual, precipitation reported;1=semiautomated, precipitation reported; 2=manual,precipitation not reported; 3=automated, precipitation notreported; 4=automated, AWOS or ASOS. TDL Card Columns Desired Information 65-69 WBAN number. 71 Station status. Blank=active station; O=station that has closed or changed its call letters. (Note, if the call letters were changed, the new stations may continue to use the old WBAN number.)
